The Weekly Is Born<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming publication of the very first issue of Woodhull & Claflin’s Weekly<\/em> was announced on page two of the May 11, 1870 issue of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WOODHULL & CLAFLIN’S WEEKLY,<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

UPWARD AND ONWARD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SATURDAY, May 14th, 1870, will appear a new journal primarily devoted to the vital interests of the people. It will support<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VICTORIA C. WOODHULL,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

for President of the United States with its whole strength; otherwise it will be perfectly untram[m]eled, and will advocate<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SUFFRAGE WITHOUT DISTINCTION OF SEX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The harmonious co-operation of labor and capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liberal National Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The widest action of the citizen compatible with the dignity of the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finance and Revenue Laws to support the State, but not at the expense or for the gain of any special branches of industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such reform in the system of Internal Improvements as shall make them public benefits, instead of corporate franchises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The duty to humanity in the State in its treatment of the indigent, the helpless, and the criminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A system of office holding which will secure PURITY, HONESTY and EFFICIENCY in all public servants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WOODHULL & CLAFLIN’S WEEKLY,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

will take the highest ground in the diffusion of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RELIGION, PHILOSOPHY, AND SCIENCE,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in the conviction that in their harmonious union lies the true basis of all human progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WOODHULL & CLAFLIN’S WEEKLY<\/p>\n\n\n\n

affirms that all Parties, Isms, and Creeds devoted to settled lines of policy have become unworthy the confidence of this enlightened age; while Progress is the only principle worthy a live, intelligent and independent journal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
